EDO’s submission to the NSW Independent Bushfire Inquiry addresses the terms of reference through an environmental law lens, focusing on the key environmental drivers of bushfires, principally climate change. We look at how climate change considerations can be incorporated into ecologically sustainable, science-based laws, regulations and strategies to protect life and property and the environment from the impacts of bushfires.
We also make recommendations on immediate steps that should be taken to ensure the protection of threatened species and ecological communities that have been affected by the bushfires.
