We’re taking legal action over plans to drill up to 530 coal seam gas wells that could fuel climate change, damage groundwater and harm threatened wildlife.
Blue Energy wants to drill coal seam gas wells across more than 1000ha of bushland in Central Queensland which includes prime habitat for koalas and other threatened species.
Coal seam gas is a risky, invasive form of unconventional gas mining. The gasfield could:
- damage or contaminate several freshwater aquifers;
- pose risks to threatened native animals;
- fuel climate change and infringe on a number of rights under Queensland’s Human Rights Act.
With a project lifespan of at least two decades, Blue Energy’s gasfield flies in the face of climate science which says no new fossil fuel projects can be opened if we are to have a liveable planet.
That’s why our client is taking legal action to stop this harmful project, represented by EDO lawyers.
