The New South Wales Natural Resources Access Regulator (NRAR) has released preliminary findings alleging unlawful water capture is occurring at the Maules Creek Mine, a massive coal project situated in an agricultural region suffering through a devastating drought.
The finding follows a lengthy investigation into a complaint submitted by EDO for our client Lock the Gate, alleging the mine was taking significant quantities of surface water without appropriate water licences.
This is the first important step to ensuring Whitehaven Coal – the company that operates the mine – is held to account for alleged unlawful water take.
