On this day we pay our respects to, and stand in solidarity with, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples of Australia, recognising the painful significance of this day to their communities. We at EDO acknowledge and pay tribute to First Nations’ historical and on-going custodianship of Australia’s environment and the deep connection and relationship First Nations peoples have to it.
As an organisation we seek to work more closely with Australia’s Traditional Owners in the service of the land and its protection. We pay our respects to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people past, present and their emerging leaders. We acknowledge that sovereignty was never ceded. At EDO we seek to be part of a meaningful dialogue about the future of our country which includes commemoration and truth-telling about Australia’s painful history as we celebrate both our differences and the things we share.
