Yesterday, a draft media release was published in error. The media release, including quotes from an EDO Special Counsel, was prepared in contemplation of a hypothetical appeal by Waratah Coal Pty Ltd against a decision of the Land Court of Queensland in Waratah Coal Pty Ltd v Youth Verdict Ltd & Ors [2020] QLC 33. Waratah Coal Pty Ltd has not filed any appeal against the decision of the Land Court of Queensland.
The EDO prides itself in ensuring accuracy in all communications concerning our work. It is regrettable that a document was released that was not intended for publication. Upon becoming aware of the error, the EDO immediately requested that it be retracted, which it was. Further, we have reached out to the outlets that published the comments, and believe that the content has now been removed from those websites.
