Legal Watchdog: Healthy environment, healthy future: Environmental Justice amid COVID-19
Our webinar was held on 16 June 2020. Watch a video recording of the webinar below.
On 16 June 2020, Environmental Defenders Office held a lunchtime webinar on the changes made to planning and environment laws across the country in response to COVID-19 and the challenges arising from these changes.
We also touched on impacts on the community’s right to protest as a result of public health orders.
Lawyers Nicole Sommer and Revel Pointon set out five key principles drawn from the experience of our national team as a benchmark for actions by governments and decision-makers. These principles aim to ensure quality decision-making in the public interest to protect community rights to access justice – especially for the most vulnerable – and to ensure we build back better.
EDO lawyer Daniel Bakewell examined how protest laws are operating during COVID-19, with a particular focus on the recent Black Lives Matter protests across the country.
