Mining and Coal Seam Gas Law in Queensland – Second Edition

This plain English, easy-to-follow handbook offers clear information on
mining and coal seam gas law in Queensland, including the rights and
options of landholders who may be impacted by a nearby resource
project.

With many landholders and community groups unable to afford private
legal advice, this handbook provides a much-needed, reliable legal guide
to the state’s mining and gas law and how to engage effectively in the
process around mining and gas projects in Queensland communities.
It does not however give detailed advice on compensation.

The handbook includes detailed information on:
– Understanding the types of mining and gas permits and licences
– How to write effective submissions on resource projects
– Understanding the Environmental Impact Statement process
– How to run a basic objection hearing by yourself in the Land Court
– When and how the Federal Government might be involved
– Enforcing compliance with conditions of approval.

President FY Kingham of the Land Court of Queensland says in the
handbook’s foreword, “I see firsthand the value of a practical and
accessible guide to the relevant law […] This second edition of the guide draws on recent experience to provide up to date information. I commend the EDO on publication of its second edition of this useful guide to the
law.”
