Environmental Defenders Office welcomes the opportunity to comment on the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Amendment (Reconsideration of Decisions) Bill 2024. EDO does not support the passage of the Bill and is of the view that it limits the opportunity for both public participation and environmental protection. In our view, the rationale for the Bill is flawed, and the changes to the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (Cth) to impose a time limit on third party reconsideration requests proposed in the Bill are unnecessary.
